What is Feed the Second Line?

Can you imagine New Orleans without brass bands, Social Aid and Pleasure Clubs, and Mardi Gras Indians? These second line members are the culture bearers of our city, and with many at risk due to COVID-19, it's time we help them too.

How does it work?

Can you imagine New Orleans without brass bands, Social Aid and Pleasure Clubs, and Mardi Gras Indians? These second line members are the culture bearers of our city, and with many at risk due to COVID-19, it's time we help them too.
When you donate to us, we order meals from locally-owned restaurants allowing their businesses to remain *open*
We've partnered with the farmers market so that our elders can opt to receive a bounty of fresh vegetables and produce along with their meals
We hire community members to make groceries and coordinate with pick-up

Alex Kilburn is a painter, muralist, illustrator, and designer, living and working in the French Quarter. She works in a variety of painting media including oil, acrylic, gouache, and house paint, and her painting style varies widely according to the chosen media. Her work emphasizes the strength of femininity and nature, attempting to offer space for peace (particularly in these times of great national strife). We love Alex's interpretation of Queen Tahj!
